SCCP at UCSF - A Student Chapter of ACCP
Promoting innovative science and advancing pharmacotherapy!
The Student College of Clinical Pharmacy (SCCP) is the student chapter of the regional Northern California College of Clinical Pharmacy (NCCCP) and ACCP. SCCP at UCSF provides pharmacy students with leadership, training, and resources to achieve excellence in clinical pharmacy practice and research. In addition, our chapter encourages students to learn more about pursuing fellowships, residencies, graduate programs and a career in clinical pharmacy.

Our Mission
SCCP at UCSF aims at orienting UCSF students to the practice of clinical pharmacy and clinical research by:
- Providing information to students about careers and opportunities within the field of clinical pharmacy and research
- Promoting dedication to excellence in patient care, research, and education
- Encouraging skill development necessary to function within an interdisciplinary and research team
Our Events
- Winter Roundtable - Interested in networking? We invite pharmacists in clinical and research settings to bestow upon us their insights.
- ACCP Coffee Chats - Want to learn more about clinical pharmacy? We help organize a brief 1-on-1 chat session with current clinical pharmacists at UCSF (faculty, residents, fellows) to discuss anything of interest related to clinical pharmacy.
- Research Series Lunch Talks - Interested in clinical pharmacy research? We bring pharmacists who are involved in research to speak on what they work on and what roles pharmacists play in research.
- Monthly Journal Clubs - Want to present a journal club? We invite students interested in improving their presentation and research skills to present a journal article related to clinical pharmacy. A faculty member will also be present to help moderate the discussion and all students are welcome to listen and learn!
- Clinical Pharmacy Challenge (CPC) - Put your pharmacology, PK/PD, and clinical pharmacy knowledge to the test! All students may compete to qualify for this therapeutics and clinical skills competition to answer questions in a “quiz-bowl” type format: Trivia/lightning, clinical case, jeopardy-style. Those who qualify for UCSF’s team will represent UCSF against other pharmacy schools at the national competition in ACCP’s Annual Meeting.
- Clinical Research Challenge (CRC) - Test your clinical research-design and biostatistics knowledge! First and second year students compete to qualify for the UCSF team by answering biostatistics questions in a multiple choice format in the first round. Round 2 requires forming a research question and writing a letter of intent, and the final round involves expanding the research question into a comprehensive research proposal for an opportunity to present at ACCP’s Annual Meeting and $500.
Short Story Opportunity
Editor-in-Chief Paul Gross, MD is looking for individuals from UCSF pharmacy school to submit short stories on the topic of pharmacy to the online publication, Pulse: voices from the heart of medicine. Not only readers of Pulse might benefit from our stories, but links and reprints can be distributed widely (such as on social media and in letters to lawmakers, etc.) so that our stories can help the public and lawmakers get a better view of what pharmacists have to offer healthcare. Only one story is allowed per author for each theme. For the Pulse More Voices section, the word count is 40-400 word and it must be unpublished in any form. Submissions in other categories, up to 1200 words, are available without limit on theme.

APPE Roadmap 2024
Our new 2024-2025 Board members have created a revamped APPE roadmap based on the experiences of the current P3 class. The infographic provides advice and commentary from the P3 class on their APPE Rotations in order to help P1 and P2 students navigate the ropes in the future. Big shoutout and thanks to the P3 class for participating in the development of this infographic!
UCSF SOP Team Wins 1st at ACCP Clinical Research Challenge
Big congratulations to UCSF's pharmacy school team comprised of Pollyanna Leung, Ryan Sue, and April Zhou for winning first at the 2023 ACCP Clinical Research Challenge! Their winning proposal was on “Pharmacist Intervention in the Oncology Setting: The Impact of Telehealth Services on Cancer-Related Pain Management.” There were a total of 87 teams that entered the challenge, with teams with the top 20 scores advancing to the third and final round on development of research protocol. The team managed to come out on top and win the whole competition!
SCCP at UCSF's APPE Roadmap
Our 2021-2022 Board members created this APPE Roadmap infographic to highlight the experiences of our P3s currently completing their APPE Rotations. This is a collection of responses, advice, and statistics from our very first APPE Roadmap survey sent out in the Summer. As always, we are happy to hear from our P3s and we would like to give them a big thank you for their participation! We hope this Roadmap can give our fellow P1s and P2s a glimpse of what their future APPE rotations may look like and how to navigate them successfully!
COVID-19: Variants Vs Vaccines
In the 2021 Fall quarter, our 2021-22 SCCP at UCSF Board members collaborated with SCCP at UoP to create this peer-reviewed infographic on how vaccinations can stop the spread of the COVID-19 variants. We would like to thank Dr. Joe Guglielmo, Dr. Jessica Tran, and all our peer reviewers for their contributions. We hope this infographic can shed light on what the COVID-19 variants are and how vaccines are important to prevent their spread! Stay safe and healthy everyone! COVID-19: Five "why?" questions answered
Our 2020-21 Board members have worked through the Spring and Summer Quarters to construct this peer-reviewed infographic for our audience to learn more about COVID-19 and some common questions during the pandemic. Thank you to our advisor, Dr. Denetclaw, and all of our reviewers who have contributed to the final product. Enjoy this short read, and feel free to share amongst your loved ones, colleagues, and community. Follow the CDC website to stay updated on the most current COVID-19 pandemic news.
Please note: On June 18, 2020 Governor Newsom approved implementation of CDPH guidelines requiring all Californians to wear face masks in public, with specific exceptions.

Since the SARS-CoV-2 virus mainly replicates in the upper respiratory tract and nasal cavity of patients, and viral loads may be high, even in patients who are pre-symptomatic, it’s important for everyone to combine face covering with social distancing. Face coverings must cover the mouth and nose to be protective and are important even during outdoor activity. For current information on all of California, go to: https://covid19.ca.gov/
