ACCP-SCCP Clinical Research Challenge - Local Competition

Details: This novel competition is targeted towards P1 and P2 students. Critically evaluating and applying primary literature is an essential skill for clinical pharmacists. Research and scholarship contributes to improved health outcomes for patients and advancements in the profession of clinical pharmacy.
Local Competition Details: HERE
The Local Competition Exam will be based on piece of drug literature chosen by the ACCP Oversight Panel. The chosen drug literature will be released 72 hours in advance of the date of their scheduled competition. Each student participating in the Local Competition Exam is responsible for accessing the chosen literature and obeying all copyright constraints regarding said literature. The exam format is multiple choice questions related to research study design and biostatistics. (See Online Competition Page for more topics to study!)
National Competition Details: HERE
Top 3 scorers from the Local Competition will compose the UCSF team that will compete nationally in an online journal club, and the opportunity to submit a letter of intent and a clinical research proposal.

Jonathan Gall, PharmD, is a graduate of the SUNY Buffalo School of Pharmacy (Class of 2016) and is the current second year Clinical Sciences Fellow at Achaogen. During pharmacy school, Jonathan performed in vitro PK/PD research of antibiotics against multi-drug resistant bacteria under the advisement of Professor Brian Tsuji. As a Clinical Sciences Fellow, Jonathan participates in the design and execution of clinical studies and in vitro PK/PD studies.
Shawn Heiney, PharmD, is a graduate from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy (Class of 2017) and is the current Medical Affairs Fellow. During pharmacy school, he was involved in ACCP and AMCP, serving as president and vice-president respectively, with additional responsibilities in both the APHA and ASHP student chapters. As the Med Affairs fellow he participates in creating internal education documents, support for public facing and standardized documents, and planning for publications/strategy.
Andre Arizpe, PharmD, is a graduate of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy (Class of 2017). During pharmacy school, he was involved in research around the overuse of antibiotics nationally and the public health crisis of antibiotic resistance, and he served in several leadership roles, including chair of new student orientation and vice president of his school’s ACCP chapter. As the current first year Clinical Science Fellow at Achaogen, Andre participates in the design and execution of Phase 1-3 clinical trials supporting the development of new antibiotics.
Allison Komirenko, PharmD, is a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco (Class of 2015), Pharmaceutical Sciences Pathway. During her time as a student, she was involved in research leveraging chloroquine pharmacology to better understand cellular stress response, interning at Kaiser San Francisco in outpatient/inpatient/ambulatory care settings, and serving as a teaching assistant for Cardiovascular Therapeutics. Following pharmacy school, Allison deepened her understanding of clinical research through the Achaogen Biopharmaceutical Fellowship program as a clinical sciences fellow. Current interests include clinical pharmacology, infectious disease PK/PD, and clinical trial design.

ACCP-SCCP at UCSF would like to invite all UCSF pharmacy students to attend this year's ACCP Annual Meeting at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
***Reimbursement for P1, P2, and P3 students covers early ACCP member price of $195.***
(Must meet all ACCP-SCCP at UCSF requirements to be eligible for reimbursement)
We encourage students to arrive in Phoenix on Friday night and stay until Monday evening (3 nights). However, you may leave on Sunday evening if you wish (2 nights).
REQUIREMENTS FOR REIMBURSEMENT:
TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT IS AVAILABLE (Airfare and Lodging). The most any individual member may receive is $250/person. This is also dependent upon the number of students attending.

ACCP-SCCP at UCSF would like to invite all UCSF pharmacy students to attend this year's ACCP Annual Meeting at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
***Reimbursement for P1, P2, and P3 students covers early ACCP member price of $195.***
(Must meet all ACCP-SCCP at UCSF requirements to be eligible for reimbursement)
We encourage students to arrive in Phoenix on Friday night and stay until Monday evening (3 nights). However, you may leave on Sunday evening if you wish (2 nights).
